Michael W. Acocella, BS, PT, BS, PE

Director & Owner of AMFIT Physical Therapy


As owner of AMFIT Physical Therapy since 1999, Mr. Acocella is a graduate of Lowell University physical therapy program. Mr. Acocella sits on the Advisory Board of the Hospital for Special Surgery Rehabilitation Network.

His past experiences include Clinical Director of the Outpatient Physical Therapy Department at Hospital for Special Surgery in NY and head of their Back Treatment and Learning Center. Mr. Acocella has an extensive and specialized background in acute and non-acute orthopedic and sports-related injuries, post operative rehabilitation, spinal disorders and arthritis.

His clientele includes numerous high-profile athletes and he has conducted educational seminars and given lectures on back care, sports injuries and fall prevention.

Laraine Caplan, PT, MPT

Physical Therapist


A graduate of University of Cape Town, South Africa, Mrs. Caplan had her own private practice in orthopedics for 10 years. Mrs. Caplan graduated with her master’s degree in physical therapy from Quinnipiac College. She has been working at AMFIT since its inception in 1982, specializing in neck, back and TMJ injuries. She also as extensive experience in geriatric rehabilitation, and treating back pain in prenatal women. Mrs. Caplan is also a certified yoga instructor.

Brian Elmo, MPT, ATC, CSCS

Senior Physical Therapist


A graduate of Old Dominion University, Mr. Elmo holds a masters degree in physical therapy and a bachelors degree in sports medicine from the University of Connecticut. In addition to being a physical therapist, Mr. Elmo is also a certified athletic trainer and a certified strength and conditioning specialist. He has extensive knowledge and experience in the treatment, prevention and rehabilitation of sports and orthopedic injuries as well as treating back pain in pre and postnatal women. Mr. Elmo’s past experience includes interning for the New England Patriots.

Hope R. Bove, MBA, DPT

Senior Physical Therapist


A graduate of Sacred Heart University, Dr. Bove holds her doctorate in physical therapy, as well as a masters in business administration from Fairfield University and a bachelors degree in arts and science from Bryant College. Dr. Bove has experience in acute care, in-patient and out-patient orthopedic rehabilitation, as well as specialty interest in women’s health issues; including pre and post partum care, pelvic pain, back pain and incontinence concerns.

Melissa Vallera, DPT, CSCS, NASM-PES

Physical Therapist, Doctor of Physical Therapy


A graduate of Sacred Heart University, Dr. Vallera holds her doctorate in physical therapy, as well as a bachelors in biology from the University of Bridgeport. Dr. Vallera has over 8 years of coaching experience for players 8-18 years of age, and over 5 years of strength and conditioning experience for athletes of all sports. Her clinical experience includes home care, out-patient orthopedics and athletic injuries and prevention. Dr. Vallera is also fluent in French and Italian.

Jamie Wallace, DPT

Doctor of Physical Therapy


A graduate of Sacred Heart University, Dr. Wallace holds her doctorate in physical therapy, as well as bachelors in exercise science and physiology. Dr. Wallace has clinical experience in acute care, out-patient orthopedic rehabilitation, and vestibular rehabilitation. Dr. Wallace also has coaching experience with children ages 3-17 in gymnastics and cheerleading.

Alison Farrell, MS, ATC, LAT

Certified Athletic Trainer, Licensed Athletic Trainer


As a graduate of Ohio University with a Masters in Sports Science, Mrs. Farrell also has a B.S. in Exercise Science and Athletic Training. Mrs. Farrell was head athletic trainer for Trimble High School in Ohio. At Southern CT State University Mrs. Farrell was a member of the woman’s Basketball team and worked with the national championship men’s soccer team. Mrs. Farrell specializes in the prevention and treatment of athletic injuries and has extensive experience in the private outpatient rehabilitation setting.
